Rani Tara...रानी तारा ...ਰਾਨੀ ਤਾਰਾ

Once there was a king named HariChand in India. King HariChand had a queen with beautiful eyes.. Tara. She had made his home the abode of comforts,  She was a devotee of God and she knew the purpose of life. As it written in Guru Granth Sahib, "This human body has been given to you. This is your chance to meet God. All other works are of no use. Join the holy congregation and meditate on the Name of God" 
ਭਈ ਪਰਾਪਤਿ ਮਾਨੁਖ ਦੇਹੁਰੀਆ ॥
भई परापति मानुख देहुरीआ ॥
Bẖa▫ī parāpaṯ mānukẖ ḏehurī▫ā.
This human body has been given to you.
ਗੋਬਿੰਦ ਮਿਲਣ ਕੀ ਇਹ ਤੇਰੀ ਬਰੀਆ ॥
गोबिंद मिलण की इह तेरी बरीआ ॥
Gobinḏ milaṇ kī ih ṯerī barī▫ā.
This is your chance to meet the Lord of the Universe.
ਅਵਰਿ ਕਾਜ ਤੇਰੈ ਕਿਤੈ ਨ ਕਾਮ ॥
अवरि काज तेरै कितै न काम ॥
Avar kāj ṯerai kiṯai na kām.
Nothing else will work.
ਮਿਲੁ ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਭਜੁ ਕੇਵਲ ਨਾਮ ॥੧॥
मिलु साधसंगति भजु केवल नाम ॥१॥
Mil sāḏẖsangaṯ bẖaj keval nām. ||1||
Join the Saadh Sangat, the Company of the Holy; vibrate and meditate on the Jewel of the Naam. ||1|| 

(Guru Granth Sahib Ji, 12).

Every night the queen would leave the king’s palace to join the holy congregation and meditate on God. “She would join the holy congregation and spend the whole night by hearing the holy hymns. After she left, the King awoke in the middle of the night and realized she had gone. He could not find the Queen anywhere and his heart was filled with astonishment
ਸੁਖੁ ਰਾਜੇ ਹਰੀ ਚੰਦ ਘਰਿ ਨਾਰਿ ਸੁ ਤਾਰਾ ਲੋਚਨ ਰਾਣੀ।
Soukhu Raajay Haree Chand Ghari Naari Su Taaraa Lochan Raanee.
सुखु राजे हरी चंद घरि नारि सु तारा लोचन राणी ।
King HariChand had a queen with beautiful eyes, Tara, who had made his home the abode of comforts.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਮਿਲਿ ਗਾਵਦੇ ਰਾਤੀ ਜਾਇ ਸੁਣੈ ਗੁਰਬਾਣੀ।
Saadh Sangati Mili Gaavaday Raatee Jaai Sounai Gurabaanee. 
साध संगति मिलि गावदे राती जाइ सुणै गुरबाणी ।
At night she would go to the place where in the form of holy congregation, would recite the holy hymns.
2 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੧੦ ਪਉੜੀ ੬ ਪੰ. ੨

The King thought that Tara might be cheating on him, not realizing that Tara goes to worship and meditates on God. The queen was a great devotee of God. She would reach the holy congregation, take her sandals off, join the other devotees in worshipping and meditating on God. “The following night he followed the young queen. The queen reached the holy congregation and the King lifted one of her sandals to prove her infidelity” 
ਪਿਛੈ ਰਾਜਾ ਜਾਗਿਆ ਅਧੀ ਰਾਤਿ ਨਿਖੰਡਿ ਵਿਹਾਣੀ।
Pichhai Raajaa Jaagiaa Adhee Raati Nikhandi Vihaanee.
पिछै राजा जागिआ अधी राति निखंडि विहाणी ।
After she had left, the King awoke in the middle of the night and realised she had gone.
3 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੧੦ ਪਉੜੀ ੬ ਪੰ. ੩

ਰਾਣੀ ਦਿਸਿ ਨ ਆਵਈ ਮਨ ਵਿਚਿ ਵਰਤ ਗਈ ਹੈਰਾਣੀ।
Raanee Disi N Aavaee Man Vichi Varati Gaee Hairaanee.
राणी दिसि न आवई मन विचि वरति गई हैराणी
He could not find the Queen anywhere and his heart filled with astonishment
4 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੧੦ ਪਉੜੀ ੬ ਪੰ. ੪


ਹੋਰਤੁ ਰਾਤੀ ਉਠਿ ਕੈ ਚਲਿਆ ਪਿਛੈ ਤਰਲ ਜੁਆਣੀ।
Horatu Raatee Outdi Kai Chaliaa Pichhai Taral Juaanee.
होरतु राती उठि कै चलिआ पिछै तरल जुआणी ।
The following night he followed the young queen.
5 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੧੦ ਪਉੜੀ ੬ ਪੰ. ੫


ਰਾਣੀ ਪਹੁਤੀ ਸੰਗਤੀ ਰਾਜੇ ਖੜੀ ਖੜਾਉ ਨੀਸਾਣੀ।
Raanee Pahoutee Sangatee Raajay Kharhee Kharhaau Neesaanee.
राणी पहुती संगती राजे खड़ी खड़ाउ नीसाणी ।
The queen reached the holy congregation and the King lifted one of her sandals from there (so that he could prove the infidelity of the queen).
6 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੧੦ ਪਉੜੀ ੬ ਪੰ. ੬


The king waited outside the place where the congregation was being held. Queen came outside after meditating on God. “Because she had meditated on God in the holy congregation, one sandal became a pair. The king was astonished and realized that her matching sandal was a miracle. King said, I would devote myself to the holy congregation”. The matching sandal was a result of the miracle performed by God to protect His devotee.

ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਆਰਾਧਿਆ ਜੋੜੀ ਜੁੜੀ ਖੜਾਉ ਪੁਰਾਣੀ।
Saadhasangati Aaraadhiaa Jorhee Jurhee Kharhaau Puraanee.
साधसंगति आराधिआ जोड़ी जुड़ी खड़ाउ पुराणी ।
When about to go, the queen concentrated upon the holy congregation and the one sandal became a pair.
7 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੧੦ ਪਉੜੀ ੬ ਪੰ. ੭
ਰਾਜੇ ਡਿਠਾ ਚਲਿਤੁ ਇਹੁ ਏਹ ਖੜਾਵ ਹੈ ਚੋਜ ਵਿਡਾਣੀ।
Raajay Ditdaa Chalitu Ihu Ayh Kharhaav Hai Doj Vidaanee.
राजे डिठा चलितु इहु एह खड़ाव है दोज विडाणी ।
The king upheld this feat and realized that there her matching sandal was a miracle.
8 ਵਾਰਾਂ ਭਾਈ ਗੁਰਦਾਸ : ਵਾਰ ੧੦ ਪਉੜੀ ੬ ਪੰ. ੮
ਸਾਧਸੰਗਤਿ ਵਿਟਹੁ ਕੁਰਬਾਣੀ ॥੬॥

साधसंगति विटहु कुरबाणी ॥६॥
I am sacrifice unto the holy congregation.

So Just Meditate  And remember the GOD....
He is with You...Always...

'Dhruv-star'... ध्रुव...ਧ੍ਰੂ ...

Long, long time ago, there lived a king called Uttanapada. King Uttanapada had two queens, Suniti and Suruchi.
Queen Suniti was the older queen. She was good and kind and gentle. She had a little son called Dhruv. Queen Suruchi, the younger queen, was very beautiful, but proud and haughty. Suruchi, too, had a son, who was called Uttama.
Suruchi was determined that her son Uttama should be king when he grew up. But since Dhruv was the older son, he was more likely to be made king. So Suruchi decided to get rid of Suniti and her baby son Dhruv.
Now, Suruchi was also the King's favourite queen. Uttanapada loved her for her beauty, and was willing to do anything to make her happy. So Suruchi made him banish Suniti and Dhruv into the forest, far away from the royal palace.
Suniti lived quietly in the forest, bringing up her little son, who soon grew to be a bright, clever little boy. One day, when Dhruv was of seven, he asked Suniti, 'Mother, who is my father?'
Suniti smiled sadly. 'The great King Uttanapada himself is your father, Dhruv,' she said. 'He lives far away in the royal palace.'

'I want to meet my father,' said Dhruv. 'Please, Mother, can I go and visit him in his palace?'
Suniti blessed him, and let him go.
Soon Dhruv reached the King's palace. King Uttanapada was sitting in his gardens, admiring the flowers and listening to the birds. Dhruv ran up to him, and touched his feet. 'Oh King,' said Dhruv. 'Do you recognize me? I am Dhruv, your son.' The King was overjoyed. He picked up the little boy and sat him on his lap.

Just then, Suruchi appeared, holding her small son Uttama by the hand. She was furious when she realised that the little boy in the King's lap was Dhruv. 'You horrible little brat,' she cried, 'How dare you come here?' And snatching Dhruv out of the King's arms she threw him out of the palace.
'Never, ever, come back,' Suruchi screamed at Dhruv. 'It is my son Uttama - not you - who will be king one day. There is no place here for you or your mother.'

Dhruv went back to his mother in the forest. He was very quiet and thoughtful all day long. Finally he asked Suniti, 'Ma, is there anyone more powerful than the King?'
'Yes,' said his mother. 'Narayan is more powerful than the King.'
'Where does he live?' asked Dhruv.
'Far away, in the mountains,' answered Suniti.

That night, when his mother was asleep, Dhruv left the house and began walking towards the mountains. He walked and he walked and he walked, and thought only of Narayan. Narayan is no other than the great GOD , the Preserver of the world.
Finally he came to the edge of the northern sky, where he met the sage Narad and asked him, 'Where can I find Narayan?'
'Stay right where you are,' answered Narad. 'Think only of Narayan, and have patience. You will find him.'

So Dhruv stopped where he was, and meditated, thinking only of Narayan. His meditations released such tremendous energy that the very earth shook and disturbed the Saptarishis, the Seven Sages, who were meditating nearby. They wondered who it could be who was releasing such energy by the strength of his meditation. 'It must be a great king, or a GOD,' they said, 'to have so much power.' They were amazed to find it was only a little boy. The Rishis surrounded him and prayed with him as he meditated.

Soon Indra, the King of the Gods, became worried. What does this little boy want from Narayan?' he wondered. 'Maybe it is my throne in the heavens that he will ask for!' 

So Indra tried to distract Dhruv from his meditation. He took on the form of Suniti, Dhruv's mother, and begged him to come back home. But Dhruv barely heard. Indra sent all kinds of monsters and snakes and evil creatures to scare the boy and make him give up his meditation, but Dhruv stood still and calm, unaware of everything except Narayan.

Ultimately Vishnu himself noticed the boy and felt the strength of his meditation. 'I must grant him what he wants,' said the great god Narayan to himself. 'Such perseverance and steadiness of purpose must be rewarded.'
So Narayan came down to the forest, and stood before Dhruv. 'I am here, Dhruv,' he said. 'What is it that you want so much?' But Dhruv only smiled when he saw Narayan.

So LORD turned Dhruv into a little star and placed him high in the sky, above the world, and away from all jealousy and evil. The Seven Rishis, who had protected Dhruv as he prayed, LORD turned into seven bright stars and placed them protectively around the little Dhruv-star.

Even today, when you look up into the sky, you will be able to see a little star shining high above. This little star never moves, for it is Dhruv, who never moved from his meditation of Narayan. We call this star the pole star. Children in India still call it 'Dhruv-tara' or 'Dhruv-star'. 

The seven stars of the Seven Rishis can also be seen, slowly moving around the pole star. These Seven Stars form the constellation known as Saptarishi in India, and as the Great Bear in other parts of the world.

ਨਾਰਦੁ ਧ੍ਰੂ ਪ੍ਰਹਲਾਦੁ ਸੁਦਾਮਾ ਪੁਬ ਭਗਤ ਹਰਿ ਕੇ ਜੁ ਗਣੰ ॥
नारदु ध्रू प्रहलादु सुदामा पुब भगत हरि के जु गणं ॥
Nāraḏ ḏẖarū parahlāḏ suḏāmā pub bẖagaṯ har ke jo gaṇaʼn.
Naarad, Dhroo, Prahlaad and Sudaamaa are accounted among the Lord's devotees of the past.

ਨਉ ਨਿਧਿ ਠਾਕੁਰਿ ਦਈ ਸੁਦਾਮੈ ਧ੍ਰੂਅ ਅਟਲੁ ਅਜਹੂ ਨ ਟਰਿਓ ॥੩॥
नउ निधि ठाकुरि दई सुदामै ध्रूअ अटलु अजहू न टरिओ ॥३॥
Na▫o niḏẖ ṯẖākur ḏa▫ī suḏāmai ḏẖarū▫a atal ajhū na tari▫o. ||3||
Sudama's Lord and Master blessed him with the nine treasures; he made Dhroo permanent and unmoving; as the north star, he still hasn't moved. ||3||

Ajamal ...ਅਜਾਮਲ...अजामल...

A brahmin named ajamal, whose name has been mentioned in gurbani a few times. His story did not occur in this age, kaljug, but in another one before this one.

Ajamal was born to a Raaj Purohit and a high caste within already high caste of Hindus i.e. Brahmins. 

Raaj Purohit means the main pujaari of a kingdom. A Raaj Purohit is like the head priest of a kingdom and the kings refer to their raaj purohits for any questions on religion. 

Ajamal was brought up in a very religious atmosphere and was provided with Sanskrit education from early age. By the time he reached the age of maturity, he became well-versed in all 4 Vedas, 18 Puraanas and other important religious books of those times. His father was a man of high probity and integrity. 



He used to admonish him against doing paap karams (sins). He further told him to never go in the southern part of the city because that part of the city was full of scoundrels and prostitutes. 

He got married to a beautiful and good-hearted woman. They had a couple of children and led an uneventful life till his father died. He was then appointed to the post of Raaj Purohit. His life continued in normal fashion until that fateful day when he had to go to the southern part of the city. It was probably his destiny to go to that part of the city. 

He was on horseback and as he approached the inner city, he came off his horse and parked it by the tree. He started walking on foot and reached that part of the city where there are brothels and pubs. He had never been exposed to such scenes. There were women standing outside the brothels luring customers in. He was taken aback at such open display of Kaam (sex). 

Then one woman, who knew all the chalitters (wiles of seduction), looked at Ajamal with such a look that Ajamal got stuck right there. His feet won't move any further. Then she without speaking, just with a hand gesture, asked him to follow her. She was a young and promiscuous woman in her early twenties. He resisted but could not resist for too long. Finally he gave in to the temptation and started walking behind her.

That day changed his life forever. He became a regular visitor to this Ganika (prostitute, bad woman). Soon others found out about his double life. His wife pleaded with him to stop seeing the prostitute but he would not listen. Everyone was wondering why he could not leave this prostitute and what wrong did he see in his beautiful, homely and good-natured wife. 

When the king found out, he was quite upset at Ajamal but wanted to give him a second chance out of his respect for Ajamal's father. He tried to persuade Ajamal but soon found out that Ajamal was not going to stop seeing the new woman. Ajamal was spending his money very recklessly and in order to protect his legitimate children and wife, the king decided to banish him from his kingdom. He confiscated all his property and gave it to his wife and children. Thereafter he banished Ajamal and the prostitute from his kingdom. 

Great calamities befell on both Ajamal and the prostitute. They moved out of the kingdom and starting leading a very destitute life. Ajamal was left with no money, and now had to work very hard to earn his living. He used to cut wood from jungle all day and sell it in the city. He started gambling, drinking and doing other bad things. He and his mistress used to fight endlessly and had a lot of children together. 

The poverty took its toll on Ajamal and he became old before his age. He got infected with many diseases and suffered a lot. He and his mistress had several children together. Ajamal had to work very hard to feed his new family. When Ajamal hit old-age, his body became very weak but he had to work to feed his family. He sometimes used to regret his decision but it was too late to go back now. He knew that no one would accept him back. 

Anyway, later in his life he had a son and the day his son was born, some saadhu jan (holy men) came to his house to seek refuge from bad weather. Ajaamal out of his good karma, did sewa of those Sadhoos. The Saadhoos had ridhi-sidhi and sensed that Ajamal had led a very terrible life and that in the next world he would suffer badly in the hands of Jammdoots. 

Before leaving they had mercy on Ajamal. They noticed that Ajamal was totally entangled in the attachment of his family and because of his bad karma, he could not do any bhagti. They knew that if he did not do bhagtee i.e. Naam jaap, he would suffer in the hands of Jammdoots. They finally came up with an idea. They told him to name his latest born son "Narayan". Obeying what the saadhoo said, Ajamal named his son - Narayan. We should remember that Narayan is one of the qualitative names of God. 

Ajamal became very fond of his son and lovingly called him "Naraayan Naraayan" all day. By this time, his diseases overpowered him and he lay at deathbed. As he lay in his bed, waiting for death, he still had moh for his youngest son and kept calling him lovingly "Naraayan, Naraayan". Saying "Naraayan" seemed very good to him and said more and more of "Naraayan". He felt good saying "Narayan Narayan"

When his death time came close, Jammdoots started visiting him and he could see them approaching him. The sight of Jammdoots greatly terrified him and out of fear, he called his son Narayan by name. He kept saying help me Narayan, save me Narayan. As the Jammdoots approached him, they realized that they could not reach him as he was saying God's naam (Waheguru)

Jammdoots could not get close to him but his end was fast approaching. Ajamal just kept calling his son Narayan and jammdoots totally became helpless. By this time the good angels (devtay) came to get Ajamal. The Jammdoots and the angels started having debate on who was to take him to the next world. This debate is highly interesting and is written in great detail in Sri Madd Bhagwat Puraan. 

Anyway, the angels reminded the Jammdoots that whoever does kirtan or recites Naam, jammdoots are not allowed to catch them. The Jammdoots went back to Dharam Rai, their master and Dharam Rai confirmed that whoever does kirtan or Naam, Jammdoots are not allowed to get near them. This dialogue of Dharam Rai is recorded in Gurbani as follows:


ਸਲੋਕੁ ॥
सलोकु ॥
Salok.
Shalok:

ਜਹ ਸਾਧੂ ਗੋਬਿਦ ਭਜਨੁ ਕੀਰਤਨੁ ਨਾਨਕ ਨੀਤ ॥
जह साधू गोबिद भजनु कीरतनु नानक नीत ॥
Jah sāḏẖū gobiḏ bẖajan kīrṯan Nānak nīṯ.
Where the Holy people constantly vibrate the Kirtan of the Praises of the Lord of the Universe, O Nanak -



ਣਾ ਹਉ ਣਾ ਤੂੰ ਣਹ ਛੁਟਹਿ ਨਿਕਟਿ ਨ ਜਾਈਅਹੁ ਦੂਤ ॥੧॥
णा हउ णा तूं णह छुटहि निकटि न जाईअहु दूत ॥१॥
Ņā ha▫o ṇā ṯūʼn ṇah cẖẖutėh nikat na jā▫ī▫ahu ḏūṯ. ||1||
the Righteous Judge says, "Do not approach that place, O Messenger of Death, or else neither you nor I shall escape!" ||1||

In the end jammdoots could not reach him and he was taken to the next world by devtaas (good angels of heaven). 

Gurbani says this very clearly that whoever says name of Waheguru in the last moments of his or her life, does not go to jammdoots. So Ajaamal, who was maha-paapi, went to heaven instead of going to hell,

Ajaamal loved his son Naaraayan, and called out his name.

Strange but True..

Isn't it strange how a £20 note seems like such a large amount when you donate it to the Gurdwara, but such a small amount when you go for shopping?

Isn't it strange how 2 hours seem so long when you're at the Gurdwara, and how short they seem when you're watching a good movie? 


Isn't it strange that you can't find a word to say when you're praying, but you have no trouble thinking what to talk about with a friend?

Isn't it strange how difficult and boring it is to read one chapter of the Guru Granth Sahib, but how easy it is to read 100 pages of a popular novel?

Isn't it strange how everyone wants front-row-tickets to concerts or games, but they do whatever is possible to sit at the back of the Gurdwara?

Isn't it strange how difficult it is to learn a fact about Waheguru to share it with others, but how easy it is to learn, understand, extend and repeat gossip?


Isn't it strange how we believe everything that magazines and newspapers say, but we question the words in the Guru Granth Sahib?

Isn't it strange how everyone wants a place in heaven, but they don't want to believe, do, or say anything to get there?

Still there is time to understand.....

ਜਨਮ ਜਨਮ ਭਰਮਤ ਫਿਰਿਓ ਮਿਟਿਓ ਨ ਜਮ ਕੋ ਤ੍ਰਾਸੁ ॥
जनम जनम भरमत फिरिओ मिटिओ न जम को त्रासु ॥
Janam janam bẖarmaṯ firi▫o miti▫o na jam ko ṯarās.
Mortals wander lost and confused through countless lifetimes; their fear of death is never removed.

ਹੋਲਾ - ਮੋਹੱਲਾ....


ਲਾਲ ਰੰਗੁ ਤਿਸ ਕਉ ਲਗਾ ਜਿਸ ਕੇ ਵਡਭਾਗਾ ॥
लाल रंगु तिस कउ लगा जिस के वडभागा ॥
Lāl rang ṯis ka▫o lagā jis ke vadbẖāgā.
One is dyed in the color of the Lord's Love, by great good fortune.


ਮੈਲਾ ਕਦੇ ਨ ਹੋਵਈ ਨਹ ਲਾਗੈ ਦਾਗਾ ॥੧॥
मैला कदे न होवई नह लागै दागा ॥१॥
Mailā kaḏe na hova▫ī nah lāgai ḏāgā. ||1||
This color is never muddied; no stain ever sticks to it. ||1||

ਹੋਲੀ ਕੀਨੀ ਸੰਤ ਸੇਵ 
होली कीनी संत सेव ॥
Holī kīnī sanṯ sev.
I celebrate the festival of Holi by serving the Saints.

ਰੰਗੁ ਲਾਗਾ ਅਤਿ ਲਾਲ ਦੇਵ ॥੨॥
रंगु लागा अति लाल देव ॥२॥
Rang lāgā aṯ lāl ḏev. ||2||
I am imbued with the deep crimson color of the Lord's Divine Love. ||2||
